What inspired your journey into engineering?
Mirza: My passion for aviation began with a visit to the RSAF Open House as a kid. The deafening roar of the jets left a lasting impression, and I knew right then that this was the field I wanted to be in! Since then, I’ve developed a fascination with the technology, innovation, and complexity behind flight. What draws me in even more is the high level of responsibility this industry holds in ensuring safe and reliable travel. Beyond the machines, aviation is about connecting people across the world, and I’m proud to be part of the team that makes it possible!
Celine: I was strong in Math and Science, so engineering was a natural choice for me. When applying for university, I was interested in environmental sustainability (particularly renewables), and it made sense to delve deeper into this field to build a strong technical foundation through engineering.
Mirza, how has the scholarship shaped your growth?
This scholarship felt like the perfect fit because of ST Engineering’s role as a pioneer in cutting-edge engineering solutions. We not only serve a wide range of global customers but also contribute meaningfully to our nation’s defence. This commitment towards innovation and national service aligns closely with my values of using engineering to develop solutions that benefit others.
The greatest benefit of this scholarship has been the exposure and continuous learning it offers. I’ve been encouraged to step out of my comfort zone and stretch my potential. In my current role in Operations, I’ve had the chance to take on responsibilities that challenge my technical knowledge and build my leadership capabilities. Working closely with experienced leaders has also been invaluable in helping me gain insights and firsthand exposure to real-world challenges. These experiences have shaped my perspective and laid a strong foundation for my future.

Celine, what sparked your interest in exploring different fields of engineering, and how has that shaped your work today?
The scholarship gave me the exposure to diverse industries within ST Engineering, which broadened my perspective and sharpened my strategic thinking, especially in cross-disciplinary projects.
I wanted a deeper understanding of various engineering fields to solve complex, multifaceted problems. This broad knowledge base allows me to approach challenges at ST Engineering from different angles and work collaboratively across disciplines.
What does a typical day at work look like for you at ST Engineering?
Mirza: I start each day checking in with my team of technicians to ensure that scheduled work progresses smoothly and that they have the necessary tools and resources to meet their targets. These daily interactions help me stay connected to ground operations and address issues early.
Beyond that, I’m also involved in operational projects aimed at improving shopfloor efficiency and supporting business growth. This includes using business intelligence tools to monitor key metrics, and taking part in strategic planning to optimise the induction of critical components, aligning with customer demands and business objectives.
Celine: I conduct market research, prepare reports, and consolidate key information for top management. I analyse external and internal data to support strategic decision-making and ensure effective communication across businesses.

What has been your most fulfilling work achievement?
Mirza: While many achievements are often measured by business impact, one that stands out personally is my involvement in the Employee Welfare Committee. Being part of the team that hosts events to create opportunities for our colleagues to unwind, connect, and have fun outside of work has been incredibly rewarding. It’s a reminder that beyond our daily responsibilities, we’re part of a vibrant community that values balance between working and playing hard! I’m proud to contribute to a culture that supports both professional excellence and personal well-being—something we truly strive for as an organisation!
Celine: One of my most fulfilling achievements was stepping up to champion a sub-system in my first project. As a fresh graduate, it was a daunting role that required me to learn a completely new set of technical knowledge on the job. I’m glad that I took on the challenge—it helped me grow both professionally and personally.
I was fortunate to receive guidance from my experienced colleagues and professional network. Their advice, drawn from their years of experience, has helped accelerate my learning and opened up further opportunities for growth.
How have you made the most of opportunities at ST Engineering to grow your career, and how do you see your role evolving?
Mirza: I’ve made the most of opportunities at ST Engineering that have challenged me to grow at every level. Starting with hands-on experience in operations has given me a solid foundation and a deeper understanding of the day-to-day realities of the business. I’ve used that practical knowledge to contribute effectively while honing my skills. As I look toward future leadership roles, I’ll draw on these foundational experiences to make informed decisions and lead with a grounded and practical perspective that aligns with the company’s goals.
Celine: At ST Engineering, I’ve actively taken on learning opportunities, gained exposure to diverse projects, and sought guidance from mentors who have been generous with their time and insights. These experiences have shaped how I approach challenges and decisions. Looking ahead, I see my role evolving to take on more cross-functional responsibilities, where I can contribute to both strategy and execution, and help drive meaningful impact across teams.
