National Science Scholarship (BS-PhD)

Value & Benefits: The National Science Scholarship (BS-PhD) supports up to 8 years of undergraduate and PhD studies.

Successful applicants will be given support for their undergraduate studies, comprising*:
• Full tuition fees
• Monthly allowance
• Annual return airfare
• Pre-studies allowance
• Research attachment opportunities at A*STAR Research Institutes


*Rates/allowances vary according to country and university, and are subject to adjustments by A*STAR from time to time
Requirements: Applicants must:
• Be Singaporean. Applicants of other nationalities must intend to take up Singapore citizenship
• Have achieved excellent academic standing in the GCE 'A' Levels (preferably with 11 AUs), polytechnic diploma (preferably with Merit) or equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate or NUS High School diploma)
• Applicants who are in the last semester of their final year of studies are welcome to apply; however, successful candidates will only be awarded the scholarship if they obtain GCE “A” Level or equivalent results that meet A*STAR's requirements
• Have applied or be applying for an undergraduate programme at a top overseas university, to study in one of the areas as listed under the “Research Areas” section.

Other requirements:
• Applicants should have a keen interest in Science and research.
• Male scholars are required to serve National Service prior to commencement of undergraduate studies
• Applicants are encouraged to sit for the SAT tests to broaden their choices of institutions for their undergraduate education. Although A*STAR does not mandate a minimum SAT score as a qualifying condition for the undergraduate scholarships awarded for studies, applicants are encouraged to submit their SAT scores, if available, to be included in the overall assessment of their applications

Bond Duration: • NSS scholars are required to fulfill a six-year service commitment, inclusive of a compulsory one-year research attachment prior to PhD studies.

National Science Scholarship (Masters)

Courses / Disciplines: Area of Studies:
• Computer and Information Sciences (e.g. AI, Bioinformatics, Cybersecurity)
• Food Technology and Research, Nutrition
• Microelectronics

Applications in other research areas are welcome.
Universities / Institutions: • Top global universities overseas
Value & Benefits: The National Science Scholarship (Masters) supports up to 2 years of Masters studies, the programme should have a significant proportion (minimally 50%) of the time committed to hands-on research.

Successful applicants will be given the following support*:
• Full tuition fees
• Monthly overseas living allowance
• Annual return airfare

Other allowances including:
• Conference allowance
• Thesis allowance
• Computer allowance
• Settling-In allowance

Requirements: Applicants must
• Be Singaporean
• Have obtained, or are on track to obtain, at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours Degree or equivalent in relevant disciplines
• Applicants who are in the last semester of their final year of undergraduate studies are welcome to apply; however, successful candidates will only be awarded the scholarship if they obtain at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours Degree or equivalent
• Have applied or will be applying for a Master of Research (or equivalent) programme in selected research areas at a top overseas global university
• Have strong interest in a research career

Bond Duration: • Upon completion of the Masters programme, scholars will return to Singapore and serve a service commitment period of two (2) years

National Science Scholarship (PhD)

Universities / Institutions: • Top global universities overseas
Value & Benefits: Successful applicants will be given the following support* for up to 5 years of PhD Studies:
• Full tuition fees
• Monthly sustenance allowance, inclusive of CPF contribution (where applicable)
• Monthly overseas living allowance
• Annual return airfare

Other allowances including
• Conference allowance
• Thesis allowance
• Computer allowance
• Warm clothing and settling-in allowance

*All rates/allowances vary according to country and university, and are subject to adjustments made by A*STAR from time to time
Requirements: Applicants must:
• Be Singaporean or other nationals intending to take up Singapore citizenship
• Have strong interest in a research career
• Have outstanding undergraduate results (preferably have obtained or on track to obtain a 1st Class Honour Degree or equivalent) in relevant disciplines
• Applicants who are in the last semester of their final year of undergraduate studies are welcome to apply; however, successful candidates will only be awarded the scholarship if they obtain a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent results that meet A*STAR's requirements
• Have applied or be applying for a PhD programme at a top global university

Other requirements:
• Successful candidates are required to undergo a one-year research attachment at an A*STAR research institute prior to their PhD studies

Bond Duration: • Upon completion of the PhD programme, scholars will return to Singapore and contribute to A*STAR's research institutes and/or relevant organisations for four (4) years

A*STAR Computing and Information Science Scholarship

Courses / Disciplines: Computing and Information Science
Universities / Institutions: • Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
• National University of Singapore (NUS)
• Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)
• Singapore Management University (SMU)
Value & Benefits: Successful applicants will be given the following support* for up to 4 years:
• Full tuition fees
• Monthly sustenance allowance and CPF contribution (where applicable) based on the prevailing employer's contribution rate
• Support for up to 12 months of overseas attachment

Other allowances including
• Book allowance
• Computer allowance
• Conference allowance
• Miscellaneous allowance
• Thesis allowance

*All rates/allowances are subject to adjustments by A*STAR from time to time.

Post-doctoral Opportunity:
• ACIS scholars are eligible to apply for the A*STAR International Fellowship, which provides up to 2 years of funding support for post-doctoral training in a top overseas laboratory or institution.
Requirements: Applicants must:
• Be Singaporean, or other nationals are welcome to apply
• Non-Singaporeans must have completed or are on track to complete a degree in a Singapore autonomous university
• Have obtained, or are on track to obtain, at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
• Applicants who are in the last semester of their final year of undergraduate studies are welcome to apply; however, successful candidates will only be awarded the scholarship if they obtain at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours or equivalent results that meet A*STAR's requirements
• Satisfy the criteria for and gain admission to a PhD programme* in one of the following schools:
    - NTU School of Computer Science and Engineering
    - NUS School of Computing
    - SMU School of Information Systems
    - SUTD Information Systems Technology and Design Pillar
• Have strong interest to pursue a CIS research career in industry R&D labs, technology enterprises, spin-off companies and/or academia

*Applicants for thematic programmes who are applying for or have gained admission to schools/departments other than the 4 specified CIS schools may be considered for the ACIS Scholarship if their PhD project is in CIS, on a case-by-case basis.

Bond Duration: • Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents: No service commitment.
• Non-Singaporeans: 3-year service in Singapore-based companies^ without commitment to any specific organization. The area of work should preferably be in CIS disciplines.

^ Singapore-based companies refer to local companies and international companies that have a base in Singapore and which is registered with the Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).

A*STAR Graduate Scholarship

• Applicants who are in the last semester of their final year of undergraduate studies are welcome to apply; however, successful candidates will only be awarded the scholarship if they obtain at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours or equivalent results that meet A*STAR's requirements
• Have strong interest in a research career

• Monthly overseas living allowance
• Monthly sustenance allowance, inclusive of CPF contribution (where applicable)
• Full tuition fees

Other allowances including:

Requirements: Applicants must:
• Be Singaporean, or other nationals intending to take up Singapore citizenship
• Satisfy criteria for EngD admission to University of Warwick
• Have obtained, or are on track to obtain, at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours in a relevant discipline
• Applicants who are in the last semester of their final year of undergraduate studies are welcome to apply; however, successful candidates will only be awarded the scholarship if they obtain at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours or equivalent results that meet A*STAR's requirements
• Not be concurrently holding any other scholarships or fellowships

Other requirements:
• Successful candidates are required to undergo a one-year research attachment at an A*STAR research institute prior to their PhD studies

A*STAR International Fellowship (AIF)

Value & Benefits: Successful applicants will be given the following support* for up to 2 years of overseas post-doctoral research training:

• Monthly overseas living allowance
• Monthly sustenance allowance, inclusive of CPF contribution (where applicable)
• Annual return airfare
• Annual personal insurance

Other allowances including:
• Settling-in allowance
• Computer allowance
• Conference allowance
• Annual personal insurance

*All rates/allowances vary according to country and university/lab, and are subject to A*STAR adjustments from time to time
Requirements: Applicants must:
• Be Singaporean, or other nationals may apply but non-Singaporeans are required to have obtained Singapore citizenship prior to the commencement of the fellowship
• Have completed a PhD within the last 4 years
• Possess excellent publication records
• Not have existing bonds to any institution
• Have applied or be applying for a relevant post-doctoral position at a top overseas university/laboratory

Other requirements:
• Applicants in the final stages of their PhD may apply for the AIF. However, their AIF award is confirmed only upon conferment of their PhD degree
