A Place for Personal and Professional Growth

Jolen first embarked on her journey with IHH SG while searching for a career that would allow her to impact her community. She decided to take up the IHH SG Management Associate Programme as it offered her support in her personal growth and career progression. This programme is open to fresh and recent graduates from all disciplines who are passionate about the healthcare industry and wish to take on exciting careers in IHH SG. It also aims to groom the next generation of leaders in healthcare.

“With every job, I believe it is important to see what you can offer a company and what the company is able to offer in return. As for me, I believe in the need for personal growth and a holistic experience in building a career. Hence, IHH SG’s Management Associate Programme really stood out to me. It seemed like a wonderful opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of the healthcare industry while simultaneously being groomed as a leader,” she said.

“The work culture is fantastic…my colleagues often go the extra mile to provide excellent services to their clients and fellow colleagues. These are truly unsung heroes.” Edwin Wu

IHH’s global presence also gave her the confidence that the organisation would be a great starting point for her career.

Although she had graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) degree, she always had an interest in the healthcare field and was keen on eventually working in the healthcare industry. Hence, Jolen was glad to come across the Management Associate Programme.

Currently, she works in the operations team at Gleneagles Hospital and is rotated through various hospital functions to gain an understanding of how different departments at the hospital come together to achieve clinical quality and service excellence. She is involved in hospital-wide projects and also sits in senior management and operations meetings which has helped her gain a broader perspective of hospital management.

Pursuing Her Passion

Ru Ling’s passion for radiology drew her to apply for an IHH SG Scholarship in Radiology when her sister received a brochure, which promoted the course from Parkway College of Nursing and Allied Health. The IHH SG Scholarship is awarded to promising students with strong academic track records who have a passion to pursue careers in private healthcare.

“After looking through the sponsorships available and asking around, I realised that private hospitals have a faster progression in specialisation and among the private hospitals in Singapore, IHH Healthcare is the biggest group. That is why I chose to start my career with them to build my foundation,” she shared.

Through the IHH SG Scholarship, Ru Ling was able to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging degree awarded by the University of Hertfordshire in partnership with Parkway College of Nursing and Allied Health. The programme paved the way for her to become a Radiographer.

When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Ru Ling said with a smile, “It’s watching the patients being satisfied post-procedure. When they provide compliments and give good feedback, it gives me confidence and keeps me moving forward.

Making A Difference in The Lives of Others

After being exposed to various aspects of healthcare and acquiring a Diploma in Health Science Nursing from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Edwin was keen to work in the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department. He was given the opportunity to pursue an Advanced Diploma in Nursing-Emergency at Nanyang Polytechnic through the IHH Healthcare Education Sponsorship.

“I feel a great sense of satisfaction to be involved as a nurse to care for patients in life and death situations. Furthering my education in the emergency discipline allows me to gain insights on the management of emergency treatments across various facilities in Singapore,” he explained.

Edwin currently works closely with doctors and nurses to assess patients with acute conditions to chronic illnesses at the A&E Department. He enjoys the dynamic work culture at IHH SG.

“The work culture is fantastic, my colleagues often go the extra mile to provide excellent services to their clients and fellow colleagues. These are truly unsung heroes,” he adds.
