NTU is Among the Top 25 in the World for Most Influential Scientists Mentioned

NTU was among the top 25 institutions in the world with the most influential scientists mentioned. The University is now in 23rd place, up from 25th last year.

41 researchers from NTU with significant and broad influence in their fields of research were named in the Highly Cited Researchers 2022 list by Claritive Analytics, a United States-based data company.

For the fifth year running, NTU has the largest number of influential scientists among institutions in Singapore recognised in the list.

About half of the listed NTU researchers are cited for their interdisciplinary work, attesting to progress in delivering on the University’s five-year strategic plan, NTU2025 – to support high-impact interdisciplinary research to address humanity’s grand challenges such as mitigating people’s impact on the environment and technology’s impact on humanity.

NTU’s strong performance also contributed to Singapore’s position in the top 10 of countries and regions with the highest mentions in the Highly Cited Researchers list for the first time.

NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Establishes LBKM Social Sciences Scholarship

The NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) received an endowment gift of S$300,000 from Lembaga Biasiswa Kenangan Maulud (LBKM) to establish the LBKM Social Sciences Scholarship.

The Scholarship is aimed at spurring further academic excellence in the social sciences amongst FASS undergraduates and to encourage them to distinguish themselves in their scholastic activities. It will be available to academically outstanding full-time third and fourth-year Singaporean students pursuing majors in Communications and New Media, Economics, Global Studies, Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, as well as Sociology and Anthropology.

Applications for the Scholarship will be open in the academic year beginning in August 2023.

SMU Establishes Sustainability Scholarship with SeaTown Holdings International

To help develop the next pipeline of sustainability leaders, SeaTown Holdings International Pte Ltd (SeaTown) and SMU jointly established the SeaTown Sustainability Scholarship on 21 November 2022.

From Academic Year (AY) 2023/2024 to AY2025/2026, two outstanding thirdyear SMU undergraduates will be awarded the Scholarship each year. Scholarship recipients are required to have declared Sustainability as a major and must demonstrate excellent academic qualities and an active commitment to sustainability.

Each scholarship recipient will receive a total of S$30,000 ($15,000 per year for their third and fourth years of study) to cover their tuition fee and/or other study-related expenses. Scholars will also have the opportunity to be involved in a sustainabilityfocused role in the asset management industry through an internship with SeaTown’s Sustainability Research teams. In total, six students will benefit from the Scholarship.

Commenting on the Scholarship, Professor Bert de Reyck, Dean of Lee Kong Chian School of Business, SMU said, “One of the key strategies in SMU’s Sustainability Blueprint is to develop change agents through education. To prepare our students to be future sustainability leaders and active global citizens, sustainability education is embedded throughout our curriculum, which offers foundation, intermediate and advanced mastery of sustainability issues to all our students.

“We are delighted to have found a like-minded partner in SeaTown, and we are grateful for the generosity it has extended to our students through this Scholarship and the internship opportunity with SeaTown’s research teams.”

CSA Launches CSA-National Cybersecurity R&D Lab Scholarship

The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) announced the launch of the new CSA-National Cybersecurity R&D Lab Scholarship (NCLS) on 20 October 2022 at the Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW) 2022.

The objective of the NCLS is to drive and support the development of professionals in Singapore’s cybersecurity sector and support the NCL.

The National Cybersecurity R&D programme was first launched in 2013 to build and extend Singapore’s cybersecurity capabilities. Under this Programme, there are currently two laboratories to support the development of R&D expertise. They are the NCL at NUS and iTrust Labs in SUTD.

The Scholarship will be awarded to qualified students enrolled in NUS’ Masters programmes that focus on cybersecurity.

Students who receive the scholarship will be able to pursue their Master’s studies in a cybersecurity-related field across different faculties within NUS. They will have access to the NCL to aid them in their research. They will also be assigned academic mentors who will guide them in their area of research.

The CSA will be funding up to 40 scholarships over three years to qualified Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents who have been accepted into the relevant courses of studies on a full-time or part-time basis. Graduates from this programme can look forward to exciting career opportunities in cybersecurity research in NCL or in the growing cybersecurity sector.
