A Career Primed for Takeoff

Wu Bangyi is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Computing (Honours) in Computer Science degree at NUS as a CAG Undergraduate Scholar. He is expected to graduate in 2023.

From its humble beginnings of serving passengers with a single runway and terminal in the 1980s, Changi Airport has risen to become a globally renowned airport that is continually growing, as well as its capacity to handle passenger traffic.

Undergraduate Scholar Wu Bangyi has always had a great appreciation for Changi Airport having formed many fond memories of travelling with his family and friends. Hence, when the opportunity arose for him to pursue an Undergraduate Scholarship with Changi Airport Group (CAG), the organisation managing Changi Airport, he seized it with great delight. “There is this undeniable draw about working in a place that is known to be the best in the industry. Being able to uphold and even exceed expectations feels challenging and fulfilling,” he shared.

Under the CAG Undergraduate Scholarship programme, Bangyi is pursuing a Bachelor of Computing (Honours) in Computer Science degree at NUS. Both the programme and his internship experiences have filled him with confidence and excitement for the future.

“This programme is beyond just learning about coding. It aims to give you the skills and confidence to go experiment and learn languages and frameworks on your own. Through my internship, I learnt that CAG is rapidly digitalising, there are many AI projects going on and I can’t wait to get onboard to contribute to the innovative process of these projects,” he quipped.

Bangyi’s university experience has been an enriching one as he was able to experience going on an exchange programme at the University of Melbourne and he is grateful to CAG for this support it has given him through the scholarship.

“Without the scholarship, I wouldn’t have been able to stay on campus for most of my university life and living communally really contributed to the vibrance of my school life in a major way. The support from CAG for my exchange programme, especially in uncertain times during Covid-19, made it possible for me to have one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences of studying overseas,” he adds.

“Seeing people rave about Changi Airport’s facilities and impeccable services is extremely motivating and lets me know that my work is valued and loved by passengers all over the world.” Wu Bangyi

On his future at CAG, Bangyi is looking forward to contributing to the Changi East expansion plan that features a mega Terminal 5. He aims to be part of the team responsible for giving the airport “a unique edge over other aviation hubs”.

As the world’s most awarded airport, Bangyi feels a sense of pride that he believes all Singaporeans share. “Seeing people rave about our facilities and impeccable services is extremely motivating and lets me know that my work is valued and loved by passengers all over the world.”

With his graduation happening in 2023, his CAG career is primed for takeoff.
