University Traditions from around the world

Dragon Day

Every March, an enormous dragon roams Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP). Dragon Day is a unique tradition of Cornell, going back more than 100 years. The huge dragon, crafted weeks beforehand by AAP students, follows a prescribed parade route that ends at the Arts Quad where it faces its rival – a phoenix created by engineering students. This rite is one of Cornell’s best-known traditions, and even has its own Wikipedia article!
