The Shoe Tree, Murray State University

Dragon Day

Just a few feet from Pogue Library in Murray State University, Kentucky, the shoe tree stands as a reminder of the love that blossoms on campus. Tradition says that “sole” mates who meet on campus nail their shoes to the shoe tree for good luck and a happily ever after. They usually write their anniversaries on their shoes as well. It is also common for people to return to nail a baby shoe to the tree when they’ve started their family, as proof that the legend lives up to its name.
