Cool Study Spots in Singapore

We hear you: “mugging at McDonalds” is practically a secondary school tradition (it even rhymes). Arguably, one can’t be considered a real Singaporean if you haven’t spent at least two or three nights with your books and a stale cup of coffee under the golden arches.

But you’re in JC now and moving on to university soon – so it’s time to upgrade your study game starting with the location. Curated here are study spots that do more than give you a place to hit the books… they can even become sources of inspiration, learning and comfort on their own. Start taking notes!

If you want to mug, you can definitely Mug@Blossom. Located in Blossom Youth Centre in Bukit Timah, the two classroom-like study spaces have everything a student needs – and even some bonuses like cheerful décor to keep your spirits up and a mini-library for a different kind of reading. They have the basics covered too: there are power sockets, free Wi-Fi, and a TV and whiteboard in one of the rooms for those big group discussions.

As Singapore’s first co-studying and tuition space, AfterHours is a well-known study haunt located just five minutes away from Redhill MRT. Just look at the crowd in the photo! And their reputation is well-warranted. (Photo taken before 2020, of course.). They pride themselves on having everything a student may need for those long-haul mugging sessions, from free Wi-Fi, free-flow snacks, power sockets and printing services. Soak in the good vibes with like-minded individuals looking to get their studying fix done.

See those pods jutting out of the façade? There’s not just there to look cool and modern. Each of those are little nooks built with tinted glass to reduce the glare of our bright sun while you and your friends sit down, spread out your books, and have a study party. And of course, there are desks and seats for those who prefer those too. (Just keep yourselves focused on the studying and don’t get distracted by Youtube!)

A common study hangout, Bishan Library can get crowded quickly. Make sure to go early to secure your space!

Tampines Hub

Tampines Hub advertises itself as a place to do sports, hang out, eat, shop and study, and with good reason. As Singapore’s largest integrated community and lifestyle hub, it has something for everyone and more besides.

For students, there are ample study spots on every level with power points, Wi-Fi and vending machines dispensing drinks, tidbits and even notebooks and keychains. And depending on your preferred aesthetic, you can go for the clean-and-green look or even a simulated bookshelf counter. To top it off, those who need further inspiration or reference materials can find them at the Tampines Regional Library on Floor 2 (which has study tables as well!).

Our Community Club

Several of our community clubs (CCs) have dedicated studying facilities, including Macpherson, Nee Soon East, and Sengkang. In our opinion, there’s no better way to get your studying groove on than in a room that closely resembles the average secondary school classroom (complete with single-sized desk and plastic chair). However, unlike your school days, feel free to bring in drinks, snacks, and even a friend – just no loud talking lest you disturb the others!

Location Address:
All over the island! Just call ahead to find out if your nearest CC has study facilities.

Operating Hours:
Most CCs are open from 10am – 10pm, though we advise you to check before you go.
