SMI – MaritimeONE Postgraduate R&D Scholarship ( Application till 2026-04-10 )

The SMI – MaritimeONE Postgraduate R&D Scholarship aims to develop quality local maritime research talent and domain experts to deepen Singapore’s specialised R&D capabilities as a global maritime knowledge hub.

  • Maritime decarbonisation and sustainability

  • Other areas will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Value ($)
  • Value of scholarship ranges from S$100,000 – $850,000 (disbursed in stages)
  • Benefits may vary for existing staff of research Centres of Excellence funded by SMI.
Additional Benefit
  • Full tuition fees
  • Monthly stipend
  • Bonus monthly stipend upon passing the Qualifying Examination and subject to good performance
  • Research allowance of up to $6,000 annually to support research costs including materials, overseas conference costs
  • Return economy airfare subsidy

  • International exchange (supportable up to 1 year for PhD and 6 months for Masters for scholars in local universities)

Service Committment
To complete the service commitment at approved research Centres of Excellence and research institutes, including Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre of Excellence (MESD) at NTU, Centre of Excellence in Modelling and Simulation for Next Generation Ports (C4NGP) at NUS, Centre of Excellence for Autonomous & Remotely Operated Vessels (CEAOPS) at TCOMS, Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (CEMS) at SP and iTrust at SUTD. Service commitment may also be completed in a maritime research and development role at a Singapore-based company, subject to SMI’s approval.
  • Local Universities: PhD 4 years/Masters 2 years
  • Overseas Universities: PhD 5 years/Masters 3 years

Eligibility
  • Singapore Citizen or Singapore PR
  • Outstanding academic results
  • Must meet prevailing admission requirements for university postgraduate research programmes
  • Have strong interest in a career in maritime R&D
