Hear From Our Scholars

I thought that SLA was a great place to be close to the forefront of government efforts in geospatial technologies and their rapid development. It's rather exciting to see and know that my work directly contributes to the lived experiences of Singaporeans and to be a part of this action!"

I wanted to use my Law Degree to formulate innovative policies that address land scarcity issues. At SLA, I double-hat in both Land Titles Registry Division and Legal Division. I also learn about the work in other departments, that truly helps me to broaden my horizon as I learn more about how different industries work."

SLA is a forward-looking organisation whose initiatives are invaluable to addressing challenges in today's world. The Singapore Geospatial Scholarship was also enticing since I'm given the opportunity to learn from more than one organisation."

My interest in real estate and the inclination to serve in the public sector made SLA a natural choice. As part of SLA, I have the opportunity to be exposed to work that touches on the different aspects of real estate."

"In university, I discovered my interests in policymaking, urban land use, poverty alleviation, and food security. It was also then that I realised how important land is as a factor of production.
I felt that SLA was an ideal fit as it would suit my interests in political science and public policy. I was also glad the scholarship could help alleviate the financial burden of education and an overseas exchange programme."

SLA is the leading agency on geospatial matters. Besides the use of GIST (Geographic Information Systems and Technology) in various core functions within SLA, SLA is spearheading the development of the GIST landscape in Singapore. Since I had my mind set on pursuing my interest in GIST, the decision to apply for the SLA scholarship was a definitive one."

The vision of SLA is "Limited Land • Unlimited Space". This is especially relevant in Singapore, where we often talk about limited land resources, but with ingenuity and guile, there's so much that we can do together to achieve much more, and has already been done to a large extent. As the regulator for property boundary surveys in Singapore, excellence and innovation has always been a key driver leading our thoughts and actions as we create an environment that pushes us to do even more for our customers and ourselves."

The scholarship helped me to take on new leadership roles to plan, strategise and implement different projects. These leadership roles help sharpened my managerial skills in managing a dynamic team. Last but not least, being able to work in different agencies under the scholarship stint provided me with new insights and exposure to how things work differently in different agencies. That is where I learned a lot and understood how the public service functions in different ministries."

I felt the role of GIST and Spatial Data Science was crucial in the drive to become a Smart Nation, and wanted to be part of the team spearheading this transformation. Since the Singapore Geospatial Scholarship provided the opportunity to work on a diverse range of Geospatial-related projects and policies at two government agencies, and at the cross-agency level, the decision to apply for the Singapore Geospatial Scholarship was a natural one."
