MOE Teaching Award (2013-2014)
Ministry of Education Teaching Award (MOE TA) recipients can look forward to a fulfilling career in the Education Service. They will be given opportunities for higher responsibilities according to their abilities. The award will be tenable for full time undergraduate studies at local universities.
Eligibility
Applicants must come from 1 of the categories below:
• Good ‘A’ level/Polytechnic results or equivalent (e.g. International Baccalaureate, NUS High Diploma)
• ‘A’ level candidates should offer at least 10 academic units
• Qualify for entry into a local university
• Good CCA records
For Year 1, Year 2 or Year 3 undergraduates pursuing courses in the local universities
• Passion for teaching, good character and people skills
• Good university results
• Good CCA records
• Preferably reading teaching subjects at university
Course of Study
MOE TA recipients are allowed to read the following teaching subjects (i.e. subjects in the curriculum of a secondary school / junior college). The preferred subjects are:
• Languages
• Humanities
• Art and Music
• Physical Education and Sports
• Nutrition & Food Science
• Social Sciences
• Sciences
• Mathematics
Value of Award
For GCE ‘A’ Level / Polytechnic Diploma Holders, Year 1 and Year 2 undergraduates
• Tuition fees and other approved charges
• Maintenance allowance
• Sponsorship for approved student exchange programme and Masters degree (if requirements are met)
• Developmental programmes during undergraduate studies (e.g. school attachment)
For Year 3 undergraduates (for those proceeding to Honours)
• Tuition fees and other approved charges
• Maintenance allowance
• Sponsorship for Masters degree (if requirements are met)
• $6000 paid in 2 tranches (if the undergraduate is proceeding for his/her Honours year of study in the following semester at the point of award)
Length of Bond
Recipients of the MOE Teaching Award are required to serve a 4 year bond, regardless of award category.
