The Graduate Certificate & Graduate Diploma in Community Leadership and Social Development aim to imparts skills and knowledge to those who are interested in the multi-disciplinary understanding of the issues and challenges in the practice of community leadership. This is particularly useful for those working in the civil and social service sector. We hope that this programme will help support community leaders to play a progressive role in Singapore's social development.

Admission Requirements

Refer to general admission criteria for graduate programme.

Applicants are required to submit their Resume / Curriculum Vitae (CV) during application.

On a case by case basis, applicants without an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution but who possess many years of work experience (with strong recommendation letter from the employer) will be considered for admissions.

This programme is currently unable to take in international students, i.e., you must be a Singapore citizen, permanent resident or a resident in Singapore (e.g., Employment Pass holder) in order to apply for admission.

In addition to the financial aid schemes available to all students from the Singapore University of Social Sciences, there are study awards/grants which are open only to Graduate Diploma in Community Leadership and Social Development students. They are as follows:

Programme Structure

Upon successful completion of the six core courses, students will be awarded with a Graduate Diploma in Community Leadership and Social Development.

Graduate Diploma in Community Leadership and Social Development

This programme will be especially relevant to those seeking to develop advanced knowledge and expertise in community leadership and social development for occupations within the civil and social services, the social sciences, and those who wish to obtain a specialised qualification for their current professions.

Graduates will be able to apply their knowledge and skills in a wide range of careers within the civil service or non-profit sector, especially those that require community leadership and an in-depth understanding of social-cultural, political and economic issues. Students who are already in such careers will add value to their existing work with this specialised qualification and professional upgrading. This programme also provides those who wish to switch careers with expanded options in the field of community leadership and social development.

  1. How many intakes are there in a year for Graduate Diploma in Community Leadership and Social Development (GDCLSD)?
    One intake a year; every July.

  2. What is the duration to complete the GDCLSD?
    The programme takes an estimated 1 year to complete.

  3. What are the minimum and maximum durations of GDCLSD?
    GDCLSD is a minimum 1-year programme and student may stretch to a maximum of 2 years to complete.

  4. How many courses do students take in each semester?
    Students are recommended to complete no more than 3 courses per semester.

  5. When are the lessons scheduled?
    Lessons are mostly scheduled on 4 Saturdays per course from 8.30am to 5.30pm, with a lunch break of an hour. However, the classes may be scheduled on other days of the week when necessary.

  6. What happens if I do not complete the Graduate Diploma within the candidature period? Can I apply to take the remaining courses via CET pathway?
    Students who have not completed their graduate programmes within the stipulated candidature period will not be eligible for the award of the qualification for such graduate programmes. Such students however may apply to take, via the CET pathway, the remaining courses which they did not complete under their graduate programmes as part of their personal learning and development . Such application will be subjected to the CET admission requirement. However, as such students have exceeded the candidature period for their graduate programmes, they will not be awarded the qualification for such graduate programmes even after taking and completing the remaining courses via the CET pathway (“Condition”).
