Our Scholarships

Individuals with strong academic achievements and non-academic achievements are invited to apply for SFA’s Scholarships. We are looking for creative and committed individuals to take up the challenge and join us in our mission to ensure and secure a supply of safe food.

SFA offers our scholars development opportunities including job rotations to different areas of work (i.e. operations, research & laboratory, and policy & planning), secondment to other agencies, technical and management training.

National Environment & Water (NEW) Scholarship (Full-Term/Mid-Term)
Since its formation in April 2019, SFA has joined the two agencies under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources – the National Environment Agency (NEA) and PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency – to offer the National Environment and Water (NEW) Scholarship.

Tenable for
  • Undergraduate studies at local/ overseas universities
  • Full-term/ Mid-term studies
Discipline of study applicable for SFA
  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Aquaculture
  • Biological Sciences/ Life Sciences
  • Chemistry
  • Food Science/ Food Technology
  • Microbiology
  • Toxicology
  • Other related disciplines
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents intending to take up Singapore Citizenship
  • Applicants presenting ‘A’ Levels, International Baccalaureate, Polytechnic Diploma or equivalent
  • Applicants for mid-term scholarship should have attained at least one semester of academic results

  • Tuition fees and other compulsory fees
  • Maintenance allowance
  • Pre-studies allowance (One-time)
  • Return economy class airfare (For overseas scholarship)
Mid-term scholarship
  • Tuition fees and other compulsory fees (Including backpayment of tuition fees and other compulsory fees incurred prior to award)
  • Monthly maintenance allowance (From point of award)
  • One-way economy class airfare from country of study (For overseas scholarship)
Bond [Effective Jan 2020]
  • Local: 4 years
  • Overseas: 6 years
  • Overseas in non-English speaking countries: 5 years

Application Details

The NEW Scholarship opens for applications from October annually and closes 2 weeks after the release of the GCE ‘A’ Level results in Singapore. Applicants for mid-term scholarship will also apply during this period. The main cycle is offered by SFA, NEA and PUB.

Updated as at June 2020: Applications for the NEW Scholarship offered by SFA will open from 1 July 2020. Successful candidates will be awarded the NEW Scholarship and embark on a career with SFA. Individuals who are interested in a career with SFA may submit their application for the scholarship.
