The NHB scholarship scheme supports promising talents in Singapore in pursuing full-time undergraduate or postgraduates studies in the fields of heritage and/or museum management or administration.
The full scholarship is awarded only once for the duration of the study and is non-renewable. Some of the areas of study allowed under the Scheme are:
- Conservation
- Museum Education
- Curatorial Studies
- History (Singapore and Southeast Asia)
- Cultural and Heritage Management
Upon successful completion of studies, the NHB scholar will be in the employment of NHB serving a 3-year (for partial overseas scholarship and local scholarship) or 6-year (for oversesa full scholarship) bond on a full-time basis.
*Postgraduate studies refer to studies leading to a Master’s qualification and above.
Eligibility of ApplicationAll Singapore Citizens are welcome to apply for the scholarship. Applicants awaiting admission to their proposed institutions may also apply. However, proof of admission into the institution must be produced at the time of scheduled interview.
Applicants who are already in receipt of financial assistance from another institution or organization or have commenced their course of studies may not apply.
All employees of the National Heritage Board may not apply.
General Assessment CriteriaEligible applicants will be assessed on the following (not in order of importance):
- Applicant’s academic records and participation in extra-curricular activities;
- Benefits and value of the studies to the applicant and to the development of the heritage and visual arts sector in Singapore;
- Applicant’s passion for the heritage and visual arts and;
- Applicant’s achievements, track records and relevant experience (if any)

Disbursement of ScholarshipDisbursement of scholarship may (at the discretion of the National Heritage Board) be made either in one lump sum or by instalments.
Selection ProcessShort-listed applicants will be invited to attend selection interview sessions in May. Applicants successfully awarded the Scholarship will be informed of the award by June. All successful applicants are required to attend a Scholarship Award Ceremony in July/ August.
NoteOnly short-listed applicants will be notified of the results of their applications. The National Heritage Board reserves the right not to enter to disclose the reasons for approving or rejecting any application and to reject any incomplete application.
