What’s NEW Internship?
The NEW Internship is one of the selection processes for the NEW Scholarship. It is offered by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and PUB, the national water agency. The objective of the NEW Internship is to identify talented young people with an interest in environment and water issues, and to nurture this passion through work-based learning activities.
The internship is for a period of 4 to 6 weeks. Students selected will get a first hand opportunity to participate in exciting and stimulating environmental or water projects, giving them a better understanding of the dynamic environment and water sector. Meet our NEW Interns
Huang Yue, Victoria JC
Project: Nitrification Elimination in Singapore Drinking Water Distribution System
“I find the programme highly beneficial, as it has provided me valuable opportunities to find out more about PUB, and learn more about things which I might not have been able to if I did not participate in this programme. Not only has the programme given me the chance to embark on a project which I was interested in, it has also exposed me to the work and work culture of PUB. I would definitely recommend this programme to my friends, especially if they have a keen interest in water and the environment.”
Wong Yuan Hao, Hwa Chong Institution
Project: Study on RO Fouling Factors and Control Technologies
“I would recommend this internship to my peers. It offered critical insights into the challenges Singapore faces in order to be self-reliant on her water supplies and encouraged us to be part of the team in maintaining Singapore’s precious water resource.”
Tan Joo Gian, Raffles Institution
Project: A critique of Singapore's Waste Minimisation Efforts
“With the internship, I was given the opportunity to suggest solutions to improve the current recycling efforts in Singapore and also helped me gain useful insights on waste minimisation. Being in a real working environment enabled me to experience how things work and affirmed my belief that NEA is the right organisation for me.”
