ABOUT THE HEALTHCARE MERIT AWARD (HMA)
This is awarded to promising students with strong academic track records and a passion to pursue great careers in public healthcare.

Healthcare Merit Scholarship (HMS)
This is awarded to outstanding individuals who are passionate about Singapore’s public healthcare while demonstrating academic excellence, strong leadership qualities and community spirit.

Starting from 2017, MOHH has decided to take a more holistic approach in our HMS selection where all potential HMS candidates will be first be awarded the Healthcare Merit Award. Post award, all HMA recipients will be monitored for their suitability for an upgrade to HMS during their first year of studies depending on factors such as their academic results and involvement in leadership positions and project management.

WHO WE LOOK FOR
We look for dynamic and people-centric individuals who are passionate about Singapore’s Public Healthcare sector while demonstrating academic excellence and strong community spirit. Applicants must:
  • Be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident who will take up citizenship before embarking on studies
  • Possess good GCE ‘A’ level results (offered at least 10 academic units), polytechnic diploma with merit or equivalent qualifications, e.g. International Baccalaureate (IB) or high school diploma
  • Have good Co-Curricular Activities record
  • Have a passion for public healthcare sector and strong communication skills

If you are an undergraduate pursuing a health science degree, with a desire to pursue a career in the public healthcare sector after graduation, you may wish to apply for a Mid-Term Healthcare Award instead. Click here to find out more.

Successful awardees pursuing Pharmacy, Medical Social Work and Nursing would be required to pursue their required course in the Singapore universities as approved by MOHH only.

APPLICATION & INTERVIEWS

The application period will start from 1 September until 31 March of the following year.
HMA applicants will also be considered for the top-tier HMS, if they meet the relevant shortlisting criteria and perform well during the selection interview. HMA applicants need not separately apply for the HMS via the PSC Gateway.

Interviews will be conducted from Jan – Jun each year.
