Agency for Science, Technology and Research

A*STAR Undergraduate Scholarship (AUS)

Courses / Disciplines: • Biomedical Sciences
• Physical Sciences & Engineering

Value & Benefits: Successful applicants will be provided with financial support* for the duration of their undergraduate studies covering:
• Tuition fees
• Hostel Fees
• Monthly allowance
• Research attachment opportunities at A*STAR Research Institutes
• One overseas exchange programme during their undergraduate studies (up to 6 months)

Mid-term AUS awardees will be offered the same terms of support as the direct AUS scholars from the point of the award, without retrospective payment.

Requirements: • Applicants who have achieved excellent academic standing in the GCE ‘A’ Levels (preferably with 11 AUs), polytechnic diploma (preferably with Merit) or equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate or NUS High School diploma)
• Applicants must be Singaporean; those of other nationalities must intend to take up Singapore citizenship
• Applicants should have a keen interest in Science and research

Applicants in undergraduate Year 2 and above must be Singaporean and should have:
• Completed at least 2 terms of studies with graded results
• Obtained a term CAP / GPA and CAP / cumulative GPA of at least 4.50 in the latest academic term / year

Bond Duration: AUS scholars are required to embark on and complete a PhD programme in Science or Engineering disciplines after the completion of their undergraduate studies. AUS scholars may apply to the National Science Scholarship, A*STAR Graduate Scholarship or other scholarships in their final year of undergraduate studies.

National Science Scholarship (BS-PhD)

Courses / Disciplines: • Biomedical Sciences

Universities / Institutions: Top global universities
Value & Benefits: The National Science Scholarship (BS-PhD) supports up to 8 years of undergraduate and PhD studies.

Successful NSS (BS) applicants will be given support* for their undergraduate studies, comprising:
• Full tuition fees
• Monthly allowance
• Annual return airfare
• Pre-studies allowance
• Research attachment opportunities at A*STAR Research Institutes

Further support for PhD studies will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of undergraduate studies and meeting NSS (PhD) requirements (e.g. 1-year research attachment at an A*STAR Research Institute

• A compulsory 1-year research attachment at an A*STAR research institute between the BS and PhD studies
5 years at an A*STAR research institute upon completion of PhD studies

A*STAR Graduate Scholarship

Value & Benefits: Successful Applicants will be given support* for up to 4 years of academic pursuit. They will receive:
• Full tuition fees
• Monthly sustenance allowance, inclusive of CPF contribution (where applicable)
• Other allowances including
  - Book allowance
  - Computer allowance
  - Conference allowance
  - Thesis allowance
• Support for up to 12 months of overseas attachment

*All rates/allowances are subject to adjustments by A*STAR from time to time.

AGS scholars are eligible for up to 2 years of post-doctoral fellowship under AGS (PDF).
Requirements: • Applicants must satisfy criteria for and seek admission into NTU, NUS, Duke-NUS, SMU (Information Systems), and SUTD PhD programme
• Applicants must have obtained at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours Degree or equivalent in relevant disciplines
• Applicants must be Singaporean; those of other nationalities must intend to take up Singapore citizenship
• Applicants should have strong interest in a research career
• Applicants may submit GRE scores (if available) to be included in the overall assessment of their scholarship application

AGS awardees who are subsequently awarded the AGS (PDF) for overseas post-doctoral training:
3 years

National Science Scholarship (PhD)

Value & Benefits: Successful applicants will be given the following support* for up to 5 years:
• Full tuition fees
• Monthly sustenance allowance, inclusive of CPF contribution (where applicable)
• Monthly overseas living allowance
• Annual return airfare
• Other allowances including:
  - Conference allowance
  - Thesis allowance
  - Book allowance
  - Computer allowance
  - Warm clothing and settling-in allowance

*All rates/allowances vary according to country and university, and are subject to adjustments made by A*STAR.
Requirements: • Applicants must have outstanding undergraduate results (preferably 1st Class Honours Degree or equivalent) in relevant disciplines
• Applicants must be Singaporean or other nationals intending to take up Singapore citizenship
• Applicants must have strong interest in a research career
• Applicants must have applied or be applying for a PhD programme at a top global university
• Applicants must obtain good GRE scores
• Successful applicants are required to undergo a 1-year research attachment at an A*STAR research institute prior to their PhD studies

A*STAR Computing And Information Science (ACIS) Scholarship

• Monthly sustenance allowance and CPF contribution (where applicable) based on the prevailing employer’s contribution rate^
• For Singapore Citizens: S$5,000
• For Singapore Permanent Citizens^: S$4,000
• For Non-Singapore Citizens^: S$3,750
• Other allowances including:
  - Book allowance
  - Computer allowance
  - Conference allowance
  - Miscellaneous allowance
  - Thesis allowance
• Support for up to 12 months of overseas attachment
Requirements: • Applicants must be Singaporeans or other nationals intending to take up Singapore citizenship
• Satisfy the criteria for and gain admission to a PhD programme* in one of the following schools:
• NTU School of Computer Science and Engineering
• NUS School of Computing
• SMU School of Information Systems
• SUTD Information Systems Technology and Design Pillar
• Have obtained at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
• Have strong interest to pursue a CIS research career in industry R&D labs, technology enterprises, spin-off companies and/or academia
• Applicants may submit GRE scores (if available) to be included in the overall assessment of their scholarship application
*Applicants for thematic programmes who are applying for or have gained admission to schools / departments other than the 4 specified CIS schools may be considered for the ACIS Scholarship if their PhD project is in CIS, on a case-by-case basis.

^ Singapore-based companies refer to local companies and international companies that have a base in Singapore and which are registered with the Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA).

A*STAR-University Of Warwick (AWP) EngD Partnership

• Applicants must have obtained at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours Degree or equivalent in relevant disciplines
• Applicants should have strong interest in a research career
• Candidate must sit for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) prior to, or during the course of their application, and obtain minimum scores as follows:
  - Combined Verbal & Quantitative : 319
  - Analytical Writing : 4.5
• Applicants must not be concurrently holding any other scholarships or fellowships
• Successful Applicants are required to undergo a 1-year research attachment at an A*STAR research institute prior to their EngD studies
