Association of Singapore Marine Industries

The Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) is a non-profit trade association formed in 1968 to promote the interests of the marine industry in Singapore. ASMI represents a wide cross-section of the Singapore ship repair, shipbuilding and rig building industry. The major shiprepair yards, rig builders and shipbuilders in Singapore as well as most of the established local and foreign manufacturers and suppliers of marine components, and major marine engineering companies are among its members. It also represents marine contractors and companies whose activities are directly related to the industry including classification societies and marine consultants.
 

ASMI-ITE Scholarship

The ASMI-ITE Scholarship is offered to full-time students enrolled in the following Higher National ITE Certificate (NITEC) courses:

NITEC in Mechanical Engineering (ME) and
Higher NITEC in Electrical Engineering (EE)

1. Eligibility
Open to Year 2students in the abovementioned courses

2. Scholarship Award
The value of the Scholarship is S$3,000 per annum.

The Scholarship comes with a one-year bond. The recipient would be bonded to the sponsoring company for one year upon joining the company after graduation.

All recipients will be required to sign a bond agreement with the sponsoring company and provide two sureties.

The surety must be a Singaporean or Permanent Resident, and be at least 21 years of age. He/She must not have been declared a bankrupt by any court of law, and is gainfully employed with earnings of $1,500.00 or more per month.

3. General Rules and Regulations
The Scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of sponsoring companies after the selection interview.

Academic results, co-curricular activities record, attitude and character of the candidate will be considered in the selection process.

The Scholarship will be renewed each year until graduation only if the recipient maintains a high scholastic standard and good conduct.

The Scholarship may be withdrawn on the following grounds,
-Poor progress in studies,
- Poor conduct,
-Incorrect facts or information in the application, or
-Court prosecution for criminal offences.

4. Submission Requirements
Application for scholarship must be made in the prescribed ASMI-ITE Scholarship Application Form, available at the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Design Office in the Tampines Campus.

The applicant must submit detailed copies of the results (transcripts) of all examinations together with his/her applications:
-Transcripts of all examinations taken in ITE,
- A copy of their GCE N level results or equivalent,
- A copy of their GCE O level results or equivalent (if applicable), and
-A copy of their NITEC results (if applicable).

Failure to supply documents or information, submission of false particulars or suppression of material facts will disqualify the applicant.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a selection interview.

5. Penalty for Non-Compliance of Bond
A Scholarship recipient who is unable to complete the course satisfactorily or if after graduation is unwilling to fulfil his/her bond obligations by serving his/her sponsoring Company, will be required to pay liquidatory damages to the Company.
