MOE Teaching Award (2017-2018)
  • Ministry of Education Teaching Award (MOE TA) recipients can look forward to a fulfilling career in the Education Service. They will be given opportunities for higher responsibilities according to their abilities. The award will be tenable for full time undergraduate studies at local universities.

Requirements

For GCE ‘A’ Level graduates / Diploma Holders
  • Good character, and keen passion for teaching
  • Good CCA records
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good GCE ‘A’ level/Polytechnic results or equivalent (e.g. International Baccalaureate, NUS High Diploma)
  • GCE ‘A’ level candidates should offer at least 10 academic units
  • Qualify for entry into a local university

For Year 1 or Year 2 undergraduates pursuing courses in the local universities
  • Good character and keen passion for teaching
  • Good CCA records
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good university results
  • Reading teaching subjects at university

For Year 3 undergraduates pursuing courses in the local universities
  • Good character and keen passion for teaching
  • Good CCA records
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good university results
  • Reading teaching subjects at university and proceeding to Honours with at least two academic semesters left

Value of Award

For GCE ‘A’ level graduates/Diploma Holders, Year 1 and Year 2 undergraduates
  • Sponsorship of tuition fees and other approved charges
  • Maintenance allowance
  • Developmental programmes during undergraduate studies (e.g. school attachment)
  • Sponsorship of approved student exchange programmes, summer programmes and CCAs
  • Possibility of Sponsorship of Master’s degree (if requirements are met)
  • Be enrolled into the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) teacher preparation programme at the National Institute of Education (NIE), as a salaried employee, after completion of first degree

For Year 3 undergraduates (for those proceeding to Honours with at least two academic semesters left)
  • Sponsorship of tuition fees and other approved charges
  • Maintenance allowance
  • Possibility of Sponsorship for Master’s degree (if requirements are met)
  • $6000 paid in 2 tranches (if the undergraduate is proceeding for his/her Honours year of study in the following semester at the point of award)
  • Be enrolled into the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) teacher preparation programme at the National Institute of Education (NIE), as a salaried employee, after completion of first degree

Length of Bond

Local: 4 years
MOE Teaching Award Holders who are not pursuing the Bachelor of Arts/Science (Education) course at the National Institute of Education (NIE) will be required to go through the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) course at NIE upon completion of their undergraduate studies. They will serve a 3-year bond after completing their PGDE course, concurrently with their scholarship bond.
